These short animated films were commissioned by the US Army during World War II to show to the troops on the front line. The bumbling Private Snafu (SNAFU being soldier slang for ‘Situation Normal: All F***ed Up’) falls foul of numerous hazards, including enemy spies, dangerous diseases, and his own laziness. Snafu is voiced by the voice of Bugs Bunny himself, Mel Blanc. As well as to provide entertainment, these films were designed to teach soldiers the reasons behind many of the Army’s procedures, such as gas mask usage, camouflage, and communication censorship.
